Maximum City – The Rising Bar

with 7 comments

The 17th floor of a Cuffe Parade high-rise was his home for a week, as a toddler.
Sold it for 1 Crore – his uncle established.

At Hiranandani Gardens in Powai he gazed at the sky-scrapers.
1.5 Crores – he was told.

An ad mentioned about a New Cuffe Parade.
2 Crore onwards – it read.

He contemplated on a bank heist.

Maximum City – The Expressway(s)

with 6 comments

There are two – the Eastern and the Western.
However, calling them expressways on most occasions is ironical. Courtesy – the traffic snarls.

Then, there is a third variety – the Mumbai Pune Expressway.

When on this stretch, I’m always tempted to run up to those misty hillocks and soak up some rain.
But business beckons.

Someday, maybe!

Maximum City – Love By The Sea

I feel like kissing you – he whispered.
Smiling, she turned her cheek towards him.

He craned his neck to reach for her lips, instead.
She turned away.

Caressing her waist, he locked her in an embrace.
She tried to wriggle free.

This is Bandstand. No one cares! – he explained.

Looking around sheepishly, she drew him closer.

Maximum City – The Mango Man

with 6 comments

With a fixed monthly income and budgeted expenses, he hardly had cash to spare.
She was fond of money and all things it could buy.
And because he was enamored of her, he spent exorbitantly on her.

Eventually, he was cash crunched.
She shunned him.

Consoling himself, he made peace with his Mango Man status.

Mango (English) translates to Aam (Hindi)
Aam (Hindi) translates to Common (English)
Therefore, the title could alternatively be read as ‘The Common Man’

Maximum City – Repercussions Of The Night

with 6 comments

Khaki-clad brigade’s disruptions had caused business to suffer at her erstwhile office.
She scouted for another dungeon.

At her new workplace, upon seeing him, she grinned from ear to ear.
Orchestra played his favorite song. Crisp notes flew.

She pecked him on the cheek.
He wafted to cloud nine.

ICICI’s low-account-balance alert was his morning alarm.

Maximum City – The Uniformed Rowdies

Amidst the haze, disco lights and with a tipsy head, he could barely spot her amongst the throng of svelte bods. He took his usual seat.

Just then, there was a loud beep. Music ceased. Currency bundles were hidden.
He saw her scurry out in trepidation.

Moments later, khaki-clad rowdies barged in for their daily boodle.

Maximum City – The Ambani Aspirations

with 4 comments

Despite stark disparities, they had hit common ground.
Without giving any thought to the future, both played along.

She was in desperate need of cash.
He was desirous of helping but, as a matter of fact, expressed his inability.
She was unimpressed.

Just for once, he despairingly hoped he was as well-heeled as the Ambanis!
