The Stolen Thunder

Their eyes met. She was smiling.
He had put on weight and was low on confidence. He passed a smile, hoping.
It went unnoticed but her gaze was steady. Perplexed, he looked intently, following her line of sight.

He turned.

Alas!

The nation’s latest heartthrob adorned the wall behind him.

He felt his thunder being stolen.

    Our eyes met. I frowned.
I had put on weight and was low on confidence. I hoped he would ignore me.
I sighed and slowly lowered my head only to find a pair of red converse in my line of sight.
    I looked up.
The crazy calm in his eyes abated thunder in mine.
