He heard a thud and looked into the rear-view mirror. She was trying to collect herself, picking up the scattered food. She looked lost, perhaps drunk.

He got down, looked into her lifeless eyes and hugged her.
He so wanted to take her, his lost love, home.
Instead, he drove her back to the asylum.
