The Best Valentine
On the Fourteenth day of the Second month of each year, an euphonious Happy Valentine’s Day and an affectionate peck on the cheek had been his wake up call. The rest of the day was spent visiting the fair by the beach, enjoying the antics at the circus and having loads of marshmallows and candyfloss. With a tiring day being full of such fun and frolic, at night he was lulled to sleep in split seconds in the warmth of her lap.
He grew up, went to school, went to college, got a degree. He was an adult now.
His girl-friend was angry with him. For a change, he wanted to keep it simple. But despite all his efforts to make her V-Day special, she wasn’t content. Her expectations were beyond his comprehension. He was really upset.
Then he remembered her. Guilt pangs bit him deep. He hadn’t visited her in years. Jumping from the bean bag, he headed straight to the Old Age Home.
She looked frail as a child but he recognized her.
Tears rolled down Rohan’s cheeks.
He ran towards her, hugged her tight and said – Grandma! You were, are and will always be my best valentine!
The HR folks at my firm had organized a contest on the occasion of Valentine’s Day and this was my entry for the same. Alas! I did not win but it was good fun composing this quick piece.
Good one buddy!
