King Arthur …

with 5 comments

By the time I reached Chowdaiah Memorial, it was a tad late which made me wonder if the 50% discount on the blocked tickets would hold. Thanks to IST (Indian Stretchable Time ;-) ), it did.

The lobby was jam-packed and I scampered through the crowd to the main entrance. I had mistakenly taken the side-entrance :-P

Just when I had collected the tickets, I heard a lil furore … some sort of a jingle. Peeping over the heads helped me locate the choir … rather the actors who were doing an opening track, which went something like:-

‘Always look on the bright side of life

Always look on the bright side of death …

Life is a piece of shit when you look at it’

This was another new from team Evam. Although I could hear it only in parts, it seemed quite an appropriate start. More like an assurance that what lay in store was worth the wait and the hype.

A technical snag delayed the start but when it began … it was a quick recap of ‘Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life’.

The Pope’e act by Karthik reminded me of the fun that particular show had unleashed and I was all gripped to attention.

[ Michael Angelo paints 3 Christs, a kangaroo and 28 disciples in 'The Last Supper' :-D for which the Pope'e is infuriated! ]

But what followed was (well, not entirely) … a let down to some extent. Of course I laughed heartily during the play but there was something missing and it fell short of my (and a lot of other folks I know) expectations.

I am no critic and have no authority what-so-ever to criticize these bright actors but what could have been avoided was a repetition of acts. The ‘dead parrot’ episode was enacted in the last play as well.

Dead Parrot
Sunil and Karthik in the Dead Parrot

It definitely amused people who were witnessing it for the first time and that was evident from the cheers and claps coming from them. But for many it was like – ‘Oh, I have seen this … they did the same in the last play’

Besides, the humor lacked the Evam trademark. ‘The Boss’ act was an obvious attempt to cash in on the Rajnikant fever which I found a little tacky.

The props(especially King Arthur’s horse) :-D /costumes … the use of multimedia and the PYTs doing dance sequences was pleasing!

Brand building and marketing is absolutely necessary for a budding business like Evam but I would really appreciate if they concentrate more on the pertinent. What with an unwanted interval just to direct attention to their sponsors?

Undoubtedly, there must have been loads of sweat and toil behind this performance and I sure am game for the next one – ‘The Odd Couple’ but unfortunately this one … failed to impress. :-|

Belated Happy Birthday …

They are back and back with promises as tall as this – “-The funniest show ever-“.

I am not a firm believer of the adage – ‘Promises/Rules are meant to be broken’ (Who said that btw :-P ) but seldom have been at the receiving end, so a tiny bit of skepticism is warranted … is it not?

Having said that, I somehow fail to doubt the caliber of this particular group. This and this (partly) is a testimony to their accomplishments. It makes uncertainty seem unreasonable and shows me as absurdly paranoid, which of course I am not. Hence, I shrug off any such doubts what-so-ever :-P

Yes … u got it right. I am talking about none other than the monty … errr mighty ;-) Evam group.

Unfortunately, the 50% off (online bookings till Sep 16th) offer is no longer available but nonetheless, go ahead and block tickets now for a fun-filled Sunday afternoon. If you missed the laughter riot called ‘Always look on the bright side of life’, you sinned. ‘And Now for Something Completely Different’ is a sequel to that and missing this extravaganza would be nothing short of blasphemy. (Well, I for one could not have done that!)

Here are the details of the show:-

Only 2 shows.

When? Sunday, September 23rd – 3.30 pm and 7.30pm
Where? Chowdaiah Memorial Hall, Bengaluru

Damage? Rs. 500/250/100/-

BLOCK TKTS ONLINE at www.evam.in

Or call 99162-14062 / 098402-22363

Tickets also available for sale at Landmark and Crossword

And before I forget – this talented bunch of folks recently turned 4 (14 plays and 179 shows young) … on September 10th, to be precise. Here’s wishing all the best and loads of good charm … to team Evam.

The story of …

with 15 comments

A naughty spark tagged me and so here I am.

Rules are meant to be broken, aren’t they? I’ll bend some of ‘em in due course. For now, here they are :-

– Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of their middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had.
– When you are tagged you need to write your own blog-post containing your own middle name game facts.
– At the end of your blog-post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag.
– Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged.

Well … thought of cooking up a middle name for myself but then sticking to rule#1, i am using the one I have :-) and it is KUMAR.

K: Attributing it to loads of complacency that has crept into my life over the years, this has been on a downhill journey. Calling myself a ‘Go Getter’ would raise a lot of eye-brows in my peer group today but nonetheless I would like to rekindle the “Killer Instinct” I once possessed when nothing but the best was my mantra.

U: What with the hairy experiments I do with the bush on my face. People around me have varied opinions on the same but i consider it “Uber Cool”. Be it the goatee, the french cut or the mustache n soul patch, I sport it all with elan!!

M: Did u know that 6×3, 6×3.25 and 6×3.5 are the standard mattress sizes available in the market and that .5 inches of a gap(mattress length being smaller than the bed ofcourse :-P ) is reasonable to deal with. Yeah … I have an eye for detail. I am “Meticulous”

A: Is the upcoming road trip to Leh/Ladakh and a desire to Scuba Dive someday not enough evidence to prove that I am an adrenaline junkie? I have never done paintball but October promises a shot at that for this “Adventure Seeker”

R: This is hard to confess but I have noticed that … well, I have memories of having felt misty eyed and feeling the agony when love suffers and my lips break into a smile when love triumphs and emerges winner. Am I a “Romantic”?

Now, a tad deviation … I am delaying tagging folks but promise will do it in due course :-)

This tag made me dwell upon my name for quite sometime and someday, I’ll do a take for … the namesake.

Run and …

There are days.

7 of ‘em make a week.

~4 of the last add up to a month.

Everyone knows that and you must be wondering what is point of all this maths. Well, soon enough I’ll be donning the garb of a kindergarten teacher and this is a rehearsal for the same :-)

Excuse me … but the above statement was a blatant lie!! The ever fleeting ‘Time’ is what I am emphasizing on here.

The past few weeks have gone by in a jiffy. Not keeping busy is the last thing I would advocate but when most of the day is eaten up with … u know … something that does not make the heart sing, something that is more of a means to an end – it starts to take toll.

I am dying for a vacation! Nah … not the 1-2 day weekend getaways (they happen on and off), something more relaxed and soothing (maybe a trip to the great himalayas or the backwaters of kerala :-) ) that would bring my otherwise diminishing aspirations/dreams to the forefront and enthuse me with a zeal to … ‘Just Do It’ :-|

Disclaimer: This post is not related in any manner to the recent ‘DO’ campaign by SRK. Any similarity is purely coincidental. ;-)
